Adding truck train horns is the loudest modification that you can make to your truck. The horn is powered by air supply that comes from a compressor and is stored in the air tank. When the horn is on, the valve will release the compressed air which will cause a powerful honk to be heard. Although they are used in emergency vehicles and trains to warn passer-bys of imminent danger, they can now be used as an accessory for your vehicle. Nowadays, horns can be installed in any car because the horns have been resized and remodeled to fit into any make of a vehicle.

The train horn is a type of a speaker and is powered by compressed air. The air horn gets its supply of air from an air tank. A lot of compressed air is required to power the horn therefore good truck train horns must have at the very least a 20gallon tank for them to function properly and efficiently. Truck and SUV owners are currently the niche market for train horns. Most of them hide the horn so that they do not draw too much attention to themselves but there are those that thrive in that attention.

For easy installation, opt to buy scaled down versions of truck train horns. The train horn that is scaled down may come in single or two horn models. The owner of the truck may want to mount the horn on a truck or the bed of the truck to test the various demonstration purposes as well as the different configurations.

Before you set out to buy you truck train horns to install in a personal car, check your local ordinances to make sure that it is allowed. If it is legal to own a train horn, then you may want to consider the dB levels of the horn and the size of the horn that will suit your truck best. Standard train horns produce about 170dB of sound.

If the train horn is used in normal traffic, it may cause confusion and even accidents. Therefore, use your truck train horns appropriately and keep away from quiet zones to avoid prosecution. The flashy chrome appearance of the train horns will add a flashy addition to your truck.

Truck train horns are cool additions to your vehicles. They will grant you more attention than you can handle. Collecting train horns has become a hobby and there are many communities online that meet to exchange ideas and buy or sell these horns to one another. If you purchase a train horn then you must be prepared to use it responsibly and to be mindful of other people around you.

If you want to make an impression when honking your horn, then add a train horn for trucks to your truck or car. There are many novelty horns on the market, some of them playing single notes, or full chorus song. But if you are trying to get attention or you want to let people know you are around, then adding a train horn for trucks to your vehicle is the way to do it.

There are a lot of people with big oversized trucks, some with dual rear wheels. They take up a lot of space on the highway, making a big impression. Along with the size of the truck most people want a big sound to go along with that big oversized truck, so a great addition is to add multiple horns. One of the all time favorites is a train horns for trucks that you can blast as you are traveling down the road or just making yourself known.

Even some of the new smaller vehicle getting high gas mileages and are eco-friendly to the environment are adding different types of horns on their vehicles. It is actually a good idea if you are a very small vehicle driving around with all the big vehicles you are sharing the highway with, to add a big loud sound to make your presence known. You would not want to get run over by one of the larger trucks so having a horn that sounds like a train would be a great way to get attention and keep people from running you over.

Motorcycles would also be another vehicle that would benefit from a big sound. A train horns for trucks on a motorcycle would draw attention and keep people around you aware of your presence. If someone pulls out in front of you while on your motorcycle, all you would need to do is blast you horn and they would think they have pulled out in front of a speeding train.

Whatever size vehicle you own, having a horn that sounds like an oncoming locomotive could be a great way to keep yourself safe on the highways. When people hear that distinctive sound of a train horns for truck they know to be aware and approach with caution. So go ahead and add a novelty horn that sounds like a train to your vehicle today.

The mega loud blare of a locomotive’s warning whistle is an extremely recognizable sound and one that brings feelings of nostalgia and romance to some and invigorating excitement to others. It’s the second group that really enjoy the big sound and who first began finding ways to add the mechanism to trucks and cars.

The more popular the trend grew another somewhat disturbing trend was also on the rise. Trumpets were disappearing from the tops of locomotives sitting in train yards. The correlation is such that you can only assume they ended up tricking out someone’s ride.

Today train horn kits can be found for purchase online as well as in automotive aftermarket accessory shops. It’s a wise idea to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge out there before making a purchase decision and the dealers that sell these packages can provide a ton of information to help you understand what’s important to look for, what really doesn’t matter, as well as helpful tips to aid with installation.

The train horns kits for passenger vehicles are essentially the same as those used on locomotive engines. However they’ve been scaled to a more appropriate size-it’s easy to see why when you try to imagine the 25-gallon air tank used for a train somehow mounted to a small car!

The air tanks in train horn kits for cars and trucks are usually one to five gallons in size. Also included in the kit is an air compressor, a trumpet array, and all the wiring and hardware needed to completely install the unit. There are even very detailed installation instructions that make it possible for a skilled do-it-yourselfer to complete the install in a few hours.

However, if you love the idea of adding these horns to your vehicle, but don’t want to spend the time or effort to install them yourself, just about any automotive aftermarket center should be able to do it for you.

Most people prefer to fit their trucks with horns for the same reason that trains are fitted with horns: safety purposes. Because trucks are usually heavy than other vehicles, it is not a bad idea to fit your train with one instead of the of the normal horn in order to make sure that other road users are aware of any danger. You can also install truck train horns for fun. This is because they usually come in a variety of models which produce different sounds. For instance the mow of a cow, or a cartoon or certain TV programme. Because most trucks have large bonnets, the train horns can easily fit under their bonnets.

There are many places where you can buy truck train horns. You can purchase them from the internet. This is by browsing through various websites which sell train horns. There are also auction sites where you can bid for the horns. You can get a good horn at a bargain price. Again, the horns can be accessed at stores in whichever town you are in. look in shops that deal with automotives.

After the purchase, if you are not familiar with your way around trucks, it would be a good idea to let an expert fit it for you. Most shops that sell truck train horns will usually also provide someone to do the fitting for you at no cost. Fitting the horn yourself could cause you to mess up thus preventing the horn from functioning properly, therefore, exposing people to accidents.

Truck train horns usually function by allowing compressed air which facilitates the loud sound that they give out. The more air which is compressed, the more sound they will produce. The source of air in truck horns is unlimited unlike those of hand held horns.

It is important to ensure that they air horn is working. This is because it is used as a safety device and if it malfunctions, many people’s lives is in jeopardy. The advantage of air horns over electric horns is that they are usually cheaper to maintain and produce louder sounds. Therefore, it is advisable that truck train horns be made of air.

Horns for trucks usually come with 3 features: a compressor, an air tank and a 3 way horn. Truck train horns usually produce different sounds which depend on pitch and tone. Most of them go for up to 150 decibels. When you purchase a full kit, there are 2 parts that need to be installed: the gas tank and the compressor. The compressor size is usually influenced by how big the gas tank is. The bigger the gas tank, the bigger the compressor. The compressor usually looks like a tank. Its average size is about 5 gallons for a personal horn.

Marc enjoys using train horns on his car and selling them over the internet through his website.

We’ve all heard it, that penetrating steady tone blast from a passing locomotive. It is designed to warn motorists or anyone in the right-of-way to stand clear, that danger is imminent for the unaware motorist or passer-by.

Although air horns are used in emergency vehicles and trucks, it’s the train whistle that stirs the imagination. Like trains in general, these tones stir a strong nostalgic response in those who grew up near a railway. It was Hank Williams that so aptly described in song that “lonesome whistle blow.” Many youngsters have grown to adulthood with their fondness for diesel train horns intact. Today, there are many hobbyists who avidly collect these horns and refurbish them. The internet has allowed these collectors to band together to promote and share their hobby. Common collectible train horn manufacturers include Nathan, Leslie, Wabco and Prime. Only Nathan Manufacturing, Inc. and Leslie Controls, Inc. are still in existence.

All air horns operate in similar manner. Imagine for a moment a megaphone type loudspeaker. It has a magnet, a voice coil and a diaphragm. After an applied electrical input, the diaphragm vibrates causing sound waves. The air horn is a type of speaker too but is actuated by air rather than an electrical/magnetic current. Air pressure causes the diaphragm to rapidly open and close the airway many times a second. This is heard by the ear as a steady tone.

Many hobbyists can determine a train horn model simply by listening to its tone. The pitch of a train horn is affected by many variables. The diameter of the air inlet orifice determines the loudness. The internal components and the bell horn material also affect whether the tone will be mellow sharp or in-between. The size and shape of the bell horn also changes the tone.

Air horns are supplied by an air tank. The tank holds a finite quantity of air so it needs to be re-filled by an air compressor. True diesel air horns need plenty of compressed air so hobbyists recommend a minimum 20 gallon tank. Compressors can run the gamut from small 12 volt electric compressors to moderate size gasoline compressors to large 10HP gas behemoths.

Truck and SUV owners represent a growing market for air horns. These vehicle owners are drawn to the flashy chrome appearance of these horns. Some hide the horns so as not to attract attention. These scaled down versions are typically bought new in a kit for easy installation. A consumer can choose a truck air horn, typically in a single or two horn model, or a train horn that usually contain three or four horns that produces that distinctive ominous chord blend.

The kit typically involves a 12 volt compressor running off the battery which fills a one to five gallon air tank. The tank supplies air to the horn when a valve is activated. Air hoses connect the components. These kits are installed on trucks, SUVs, vans, motor homes, and just about anything on wheels with a 12 volt power supply.

A collector usually mounts an air horn on a truck or truck bed for demonstration purposes and to test different configurations. If you are considering purchasing a train horn kit for your personal vehicle, check with your local ordinance. Train horns are very loud. The best sound amazingly like a train so you don’t what to blow the horn indiscriminately.

Gene Brenner is a webmaster of a company that offers train horns and train horn kits to car and truck drivers who want a true train horn sound.

Train horn kits are sold on the internet and in certain auto-truck supply stores. They are designed to bring the evocative sound of an air train horn to everyday truck, car and boat owner enthusiasts. They have been around for over a decade but have come into their own in the past couple of years. We’ll tell you briefly what a train horn kit consists of and then survey what’s available to purchase.

The Train Horn Kit

If we think of the kit as an air flow diagram, then we would first see the air compressor pumping air into an air tank which is the air reserve holder. Then, when activated by the user, compressed air flows from the tank through the air horn thus producing a loud blast. The larger the tank, the more air is held in reserve. Larger tanks require beefier heavy duty compressors. The advantage of a kit is that everything you need is included, not just the major components, but the air hose, fittings, clamps, solenoid (air valve) and depending on the kit, a relay, toggle switch and horn button. With a kit, you know that the components are properly sized to work in tandem with no part over or under matched by another. Kits can be self installed if you’re handy that way. Many buyers employ an auto-truck service center to install the kit. Components can be installed below deck or on deck or a combination of both. Make sure the pump is as close to the air tank as possible. If the solenoid is a free standing type, keep it as close to the horn as possible.

What’s Available?

While it’s impossible to list every brand and model, we can list the major types of kits presently available.

Shocker Kits

These HornBlaster horns consist of two or four slim style black ABS bells in a horizontal array. They are one of the few USA sourced components in the trade. A shocker kit consists of a pump/tank assembly, either piggy backed and connected, or separate. Shocker kits employ Viair compressors in all the kits. Viair is a well respected maker with a reputation for reliability. The Shocker brand has been around for awhile so there is a large base of customers already using those horns.

Maximus Train Horn Kits

Maximus employs large chrome plated steel horns to product bright penetrating tone. They have stuck with four levels of kits from modest to extreme. As you go up the line, tanks get bigger and compressors get brawnier. Level 4 gets you a large 3 gallon tank with a gleaming quad horn, quite a stunner. This brand has stood the test of time and has a large installed base.

“Texas” Style Train Horn Kits

You’ll find these sold under varying brand names but one thing remains constant: lots of train horn for the money. Lower levels use Viair tank/compressor assemblies pumping 145-150 psi though the chrome plaited metal horns. Advanced level kits get a dedicated Viair pump and larger tank. Under the Dominion brand name, you can opt for a unique flat array metal horn that conveys a big rig trucker look. You can find many long one and two bell truckers horns and even a “get-out-of-the-way” firetruck air horn.

Kleinn Train Horn Kits

While tanks and pumps look largely alike no matter what the brand, horns can take many sizes shapes and materials. And so it is with train horn stalwart Klein. Here you can choose from long slim truckers style horns, triple bell air horn clusters, black ABS horns as well as a cost effective ABS horn finished in a gleaming chrome. Most Klein train horn vendors offer Prue-configured kits as well as the individual components.

There are a few other brands available but these are the main ones. It makes good sense to patronize brick-n-mortar stores or on-line shops that carry a wide variety of brands and products. It makes it that much easier to comparison shop and see all that’s available. We are often asked if air horns are legal in a particular municipality. All we can say is check with your local township for loud sound ordinances. Even if legal, use your train air horn responsibly and with discretion.

The author is a noted train horn entrepreneur who sells many brands of components and kits on TrainHorn.org. He also is webmaster of a company that offers stun guns, pepper spray and tasers.

People fancy mounting them in their vehicles as it adds grand style and smart looks to their car. There is a huge variety of train horn kits available in the market that enables the users to make an easy and effective choice so as to attain maximum features and benefits against a reasonable amount of investment.

The varying sizes and capacity of them facilitates its users to select their desired model and mount the same on their car.
They are legal devices which were originally designed to lower the rising digits of the street accidents and ensure the safety of people walking on the roads and as well as of the drivers. But unfortunately people started making illegal use of these powerful devices to annoy or irritate people so as to have fun. If you wish to install these safety devices in your car then make sure that you make a safe and careful use of the same so that it does not make additions to the list of repercussions discussed above. Instead a decent and civilized use of these devices can prove to be highly beneficial for both the drivers as well as the pedestrians.

These factors include what to do for receiving one’s horn kit and what to do if something is shipping in a damaged state.

The first and most important consideration to use is that when buying a train horn kit through a physical store or online in most cases the order that is used will be final. It cannot be cancelled or refunded after the purchase goes through. A major factor deals with how there are many parts in one of these kits. As a result it will help to look into being sure that the horn kit that one is looking into buying can actually fit into one’s car before actually buying it.

In some cases parts that come in the kit can be damaged during the shipping process. When this occurs it will be important to send the part that has been damaged back to the manufacturer in order to get a proper replacement part. An important factor to use here is to be sure that the product has not been used because many groups will not take back used train horn parts. Don’t forget that in most cases the receipt for one’s purchase will be required for one of these returns and that shipping costs may be charged to the person who bought the horn.

The price of the train horn is the last thing to look into. Train horn kits that are more powerful will generally cost more money than a horn that is not as strong.

This is a good rule of thumb to use when comparing the different train horns that a group that sells them has to offer.

In many cases problems that can occur with a train horn can be fixed with ease. Here are some tips that can be used for fixing a train horn in a variety of common situations where the horn may not be working properly.

In some cases the horn will not sound even after it has been fully installed. A tip to use to make sure that the horn works is to make a quick diagnostic check of the entire train setup. The air tank should be properly pressurized and all switches for the tank should be turned on. All fuses and circuits should be double checked as well. By checking these parts and replacing anything if necessary the horn can work properly.

In some cases the sound that comes from the horn may not sound right. In this case a tip that can be used is to check on the air source that is coming from the valve in the setup. The air source should have air lines that are equal in length. If this is not the case any lines that do not match should be replaced with new ones. The train horn should be tested in a safe and legal environment afterward.

Another part of fixing a train horn deals with removing moisture. This is vital for fixing the horn because moisture can impact the effectiveness of the horn. Tips to use here include draining and depressurizing the air tank and moving the air compressor to an area where humidity will not be as much of a factor.

The last tip to use is to consider replacing the air compressor or moving it to an area that is not as hot if the horn is knocking. This is useful because it will help to keep other parts of the train horn setup from becoming damaged over time.

Each train horn kit comes with a number of trumpets that are used to help with handling the air that is sent out for when a noise is going to be made. Some kits will come with two or three trumpets but others can come with as many as four. It will be important to have multiple trumpets so that multiple chimes of different levels can be created.

The train horn chimes that are produced by these trumpets will end up coming in through different sound levels. In many cases the chimes will sound differently because each trumpet will be of a different length in a typical setup or the weight of each trumpet will be somewhat different.

When all of the chimes that are created are combined together the kit will create a unique flat sound that is typical of what is produced by the horn. This is vital because if any of the chimes that come out of these horns sound exactly like each other the flat sound that is produced will not sound as authentic or it will be slightly off.

A vital part of these sounds is that the train horn kits trumpets that are going to be used can be placed anywhere on the inside front of the vehicle that they will be installed in. The only thing that really matters after this is that all of the trumpets create chimes that are different from each other so that the proper train horn sound can be produced.
